In sixty Seconds

zoo cartoons

Millions of years, trillion commixes
One chance olio and a species was born.
In sixty seconds on a cool wet planet
Zillions swarmed on to trammel others.

Zoos were born and cartoons too
In cages and pages all creatures live.
Tools were born and torture too
Mines and missiles minced no words.

Fences boundaries lines crisscrossed
Spiral smoke from every crooked chimney.
Deep under seas the molten belly revolted
And angrily sweep away a million vermin

Frozen heads melt, deserts in snow masks
Bikini beaches breach, dead river fish float
Forests smoke out, rivers chart new paths
And angrily wash away a million vermin.

In sixty seconds we besieged our master
The sixty-first second, our litmus test on earth.

Cobra doing Archana for Siva Lingam...Miracle?

This was a really a miracle which happened on January 15th 2010 on the solar eclipse day. I did receive this within few days of this miracle from one of the local news papers in TamilNadu. But I was not sure about the authenticity of the news and hence thought not to publish. Because few years back there was a news that Lord Ganapathy was drinking milk and finally it was proved with some scientific reasons.

I thought to ignore the email which came to me. But recently this mail has been the talk of the town and in one of the popular channels in Tamilnadu relayed the full sequence and I was shocked to see it. I am not able to correlate this with some scientific reasons and hence thought to share the article with you all.

Miracle on January 15, 2010
Solar Eclipse day[Translation]

Location : Kumbakonam (Tanjore District TamilNadu, India)

At the Siva Temple in Thepperumanallur,
large numbers of devotees witnessed a miracle of a Cobra
doing Archana for Siva Lingam with Vilvam leaves.

In Thanjavoor district of Tamil Nadu, near Thirunageswaram,
there is a Siva Temple at Thepperumanallur.

Here Vedhanthanayagi [Sakthi] with Viswanathaswamy [Siva]
are the main Deities.

In this Temple, it has been customary to do archana
with Rudhraksha only.

Yesterday morning, just before Solar Eclipse,
at about 10:30 AM Sivachariar Satish, priest of the Temple,
noticed a Cobra lying on top of the Siva Linga.

The snake slowly descended from there and went towards
the Vilvam tree which is the Sthala Viruksham- Holy tree
of the temple.

It climbed the tree and picked a Vilvam leaf and
came back and entered the Sannadhi.

The cobra enters the Lord Shiva sanidhi

It climbed onto the Siva Linga and opened it hood
and dropped the Vilvam Leaf

Then the Cobra went again and again to do the same
repeated two or three times.

Later there was an interview with the priest of the temple and he explained
"It is doing the archana during
the Solar Eclipse time to wash off its sins
".

The priest and some locals had arranged for a
photographer a few months back during Sooriya Grahanam.

In fact, they had kept milk offering also for the Naga.
But the snake did not appear on the day.

On this particular SOLAR ECLISE Grahanam day
when the priest opened the Sanctum Sanctorum he saw
the snake on the top of the Siva Linga idol.

He immediately called Mr. Thenappan the photographer
who lives in Thrunagesvaram a kilo meter from this village.

Meantime a dozen or more people including my house
caretaker had assembled to witness this miracle.

These type of miracle do happens once in a while and finally they come up with some scientific reasons for it. Lets see if there is something behind this also.

Indians Helping Indians - Indian Winter Olympics Team 2010

Among the nations competing for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games is the Indian Olympic Team. Well, Team India has 3 athletes competing in Vancouver and no support, little money and no uniforms for the opening ceremony until now, all courtesy of a local fundraiser

CBC News is reporting on their morning radio show that upon the Team India's arrival, local members of the Indian community discovered the Indian Olympic Team's plight and stepped in with a fundraiser.

A local sports apparel owner is frantically whipping up uniforms for the Indian Olympic Team complete with Indian Flag.

The Indian Winter Olympic Team for Vancouver 2010 has an alpine skier, a cross country skier and a luger.

The most well known Indian Olympic Athlete is Shiva Keshavan who is competing in the luge. A three time Olympian, Shiva Keshavan told the Vancouver Sun that up until recently he had no luge until a group of Indian lawyers stepped in and bought him a new one.

"Keshavan’s Vancouver 2010 dreams were almost dashed when his sled broke during training in November.

Five Indian lawyers heard about his plight, however, and pooled together 450,000 rupees [about $10,500 Canadian] to buy him a new one.

“It was such unexpected support,” said Keshavan. “Out of the blue they just contacted me and said they wanted to help. It’s a great feeling to know you’re being appreciated by people all over the country.”

Then there is Jamyang Namgial, an Alpine Skier and Tashi Lundup a cross-country skier.

Unfortunately, support for Olympic Athletics particularly Winter Sports is virtually non existent in India.

At the Nagano Winter Games in Japan Keshavan left the Olympic Village in disgust, according to the Indian Express Newspaper.

"Even people volunteering to assist our team have threatened to give in their resignations. For example, the Norwegian ski coach has not been paid his dues and not been reimbursed his airfare and was even asked to pay for the Olympic uniform provided to him,” he claimed.

Without naming the Winter Games Federation of India, Keshavan also alleged that sports officials had stolen and diverted funds sanctioned for him. However, the 24-year-old athlete has already set his sights on the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and said he would not let officials put a dampener on his preparations for future luge events."

With over a 1 billion people in India it is shocking to know that it has only one individual gold medal at the Olympics and that happened in 2008 in Beijing. In fact, the most medals India has ever won at Olympics is 3 - that too happened in 2008.

The reason some say for this pathetic record is Cricket is the only well funded sport in India. That is only partially true. The other reason has to do with corruption and simple neglect. A third reason, and some may argue with me on this, is I have noticed a lack of of support from families and communities for Indian sons and daughters who display Athletic skills - clubs and sports organizations don't receive the funds they need because what little is available is often sucked up by corrupt officials.

The situation is a disgrace. India can launch satellites and space program, it be a source for amazing hi-tech companies but it can't adequately support its young athletes like those competing here in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Games.

Team India should not have  to rely on a fundraiser to make ends meet at the Olympics - appalling simply appalling.

Soleckshaw - Innovation by CSIR - CMERI

Solar Power Cycle Rickshaw:

The dual-powered Soleckshaw is the CSIR’s solution for the dual problem of decent employment generation for the masses and mitigation of global warming. More than 60% of the increase in the green house gas (GHG) emission is from the transport sector. Currently, no powered vehicle or transport system is free from carbon dioxide emission. Soleckshaw, with its zero carbon foot print and the trend of widespread use, is expected to reverse global warming and protect the planet from the perils of the climate change. Its worldwide use would also enhance energy security by reducing the world’s dependence on limited fossil fuel. Equipped with novel features, this pedicab is easy to drive, both on plain as well as uphill road, without any strain of imbalance, which all of the current cycle rickshaws suffer from.

The soleckshaw is presently being tested in New Delhi, where a charging station has been set up at the Delhi Metro Rail Station. Officials aim to introduce an improved version of the vehicle in time for the Commonwealth Games.

But the Soleckshaw is priced nearly three times the cost of the hand drawn rickshaw, an out of reach economic burden for many rickshaw peddlers whose physical burdens it seeks to ease.

VINNAITHAANDI VARUVAAYA

Lets take the following typical scenario that we used to see in our everyday life ,
"A Girl & A Boy are madly in love with each other but their parents are against this. The Girl leaves the Boy and carries on with her life."

Being a BOY i had a very bad attitude towards GIRLS who fell on the above category ,i regret for it now.I attribute this change in attitude to the film VINNAITHAANDI VARUVAAYA & its director GAUTHAM VASUDEV MENON.

PLOT : " A young aspiring film director falls in love with his neighbour & recalls his love through the film he makes. "

First of all there is saying that goes " ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL ",this saying goes hand in hand with this movie ,at first glance i was like "What kind of a pathetic love is this ???" "Why is the herione such a flirt ??" "Is this really a love story ?".

I kept asking myself this question & was arguing the same with my friends throughout the film until the penultimate scene which turned my opinion about the film upside down.

Plot wise the movie has nothing new to offer but the screenplay was really fresh & it was like seeing an actual love story taking place ,the presence of the lead actors along with their wonderful chemistry made the film even more gratifying.

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon ,Well !! Hats off to you sir for weaving a new lease of life into the genre of ROMANCE after a loooong time ,the treatment meted out by him is rejuvenating & at the sametime subtle.

Casting of the lead actors couldn't have been better ,Silambarasan & Trisha have embraced their roles in the film reposedly ,it was one of the best on-screen pairs off late.

Silambarasan ,after the film i just kept pondering as to why such an actor has not been letting out his true acting potential ,his role in the film was so convincing. The director has really brought out the best role from him till date.

What can i say about the lead lady Trisha ,i feel ashamed to have criticized her love during the first part of the film. The love exhibited by her is typical of a GIRL who is torn apart between her love and family.

Special mention has to be given to Ganesh who comes as Silambarasan's friend & well-wisher ,it's because of the him that the film get its comic relief during some lengthy & intense conversations that take place ,he surely has the capability to go places.

Music by A.R.Rahman is an added strength to the film ,even the many songs held the audience together. Background score is present even during the some of the most dramatical moments thereby lifting the entire scenes to nostalgic levels.

Picturization of the entire movie was quite good especially when taking into account the work of cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa even during some of the film's ill-lighted scenes.

The dialogues in the film deserve loads of the accolades considering its effectiveness & boldness ,some of the dialogues in the film was infact too bold for me but as my friend who was watching the film with me made me realize that these are the audacious acts of love nowadays ,this fact which i never agreed upon during the intial part of the film.

However as the film arrived on its end ,i had to concur with my friend that this infact was the boldness of love these days ,some people might not agree to this but the love portrayed here was so very beautiful & touching that it might turn around their opinion just like the climax made me change my opinion about it.

The Climax of the film warrants sincere attention from the viewer to comprehend whats happening ,many people failed to understand this. This is the scene that exhibits the true love between the lead pair & how a Girl bears the pain of love throughout her life in a more realistic way.

The film had a tag line that says "Yet another love story with a difference" ,Kudos to the entire team for achieving this.

GO & WATCH the film if you want to know how a GIRL'S love has different dimensions which is hard for BOYS to acknowledge. This is truly A TYPICAL GIRL'S LOVE.

  • Rating : "PG" for some thematic scenes.
P.S : " The film's story was also simultaneously shot and released for a Telugu film by the same director and a different cast as Ye Maaya Chesave.

The movie has many dialogues in English & Malayalam which have Tamil subtitles & the movie also moves in a more dramatic & slow manner."

Interlude

what! me speed? Pictures, Images and Photos
Life zipping past as if in overdrive
Ebb and flow with unknowns thrown in
Racing against the tide at all times
Surging ahead on whippy foamy waters
Stress contaminated senses worn thin and bare
Forever dashing around like a crazed hen
Working woefully till the last ounce of energy
Crashing into a unmade bed in the three-piece suit
Moments of madness in the middle of the night
Oppressively sad without really knowing it
The ethereal calm may not last forever

Put up tired legs and just watch the traffic
Find the patchwork overall and the garden
Some time to smell air good enough to eat
The mountain beckons with paths less trodden
Collect rare shells on lonely long beaches
The winding rivers lure with whitewater rafts
Ride a bullock cart to discover forgotten forts
Trigger a renewal before a rap on the knuckles
Face up squarely before the banana boats pitch
Make a dramatic heft from the cloistral confines
Sap it stem it stop it change it before it’s too late

Inhale Happiness

wealth

Happiness is but a state of the mind
Looking for it at the table you dined?
A filled stomach and a fuller pocket
Buys delight, as did a diamond locket.

Each has one’s own personal equation
Levels off at peak, horizontal fashion.

Money flaunting buys evanescent change
Wrap of affluenza turns life estrange.
Obscure in snatched moments of phantasy
Sinking highs of drugged satin ecstasy.

Orbiting round the key to happiness
Contentment is hidden in crypticness.

Trapped in a vicious circle of action
Hunting lifelong for gratification.
Love & happiness slithers beyond reach
Perhaps the route opted needs a reteach.

Endless-peace requires subtle openness
Inhaling success-upset with sameness.

Yogic Breathing (Pranayama) - The Seven Chakras

Breathing is life. It is one of our most vital functions. One of the Five Principles of Yoga is Pranayama or Breathing Exercise which promotes proper breathing. Proper Breathing, in a Yogic point of view, is to bring more oxygen to the blood and to the brain, and to control prana or the vital life energy. Pranayama - the science of breath control, consist a series of exercises intended to meet these needs and to keep the body in vibrant health.

The Chakras are the seven main energy centers in the body. They are located along the Spine, starting at the base and running upwards to the crown of the head. The Chakras are described as "whirling disks of light", and each Chakra radiates a specific color and energy. As each Chakra relates to specific spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical issues, the conscious awareness and the balancing of these energy centers lead to well-being.

Chakra 1: Muladhara Chakra

The first Chakra, Muladhara (root), is located at the base of the spine. Its color is red and its issues are survival, stability, and self-sufficiency.

Chakra 2: Svadhisthana Chakra

The second Chakra, Svadhisthana (sweetness), is located at the lower abdomen (between belly button and pelvic bone). Its color is orange and its issues are sexuality, creativity, relationships and emotions.

Chakra 3: Manipura Chakra

The third Chakra, Manipura (lustrous gem), is located at the solar plexus (between belly button and bottom of rib cage). Its color is yellow and its issues are personal power, self esteem, willfulness and energy.

Chakra 4: Anahata Chakra

The fourth Chakra, Anahata (not struck), is located at the heart (center of the chest). Its color is green and its issues are love, compassion, acceptance, and trust.

Chakra 5: Vishuddha Chakra

The fifth Chakra, Vissudha (purification), is located at the throat. Its color is bright blue and its issues are communication, inspiration, expression, and faith.

Chakra 6: Ajna Chakra

The sixth Chakra, Ajna (to perceive), is located between the eyebrows, just above the bridge of the nose. Its color is indigo blue and its issues are psychic, emotional and mental intelligence, and intuition.

Chakra 7: Sahasrara Chakra

The seventh Chakra, Sahasrara (thousand petaled), is located at the crown (top) of the head. Its color is white or violet and its issues are devotion, inspiration, selflessness, and spiritual understanding.

Taking the Kundalini energy up from the Muladhara Chakra to the Sahasrara Chakra is the main goal of Kundalini Yoga. They use different Yoga Techniques in order to awaken the Kundalini (serpent energy) which is resting in the Muladhara Chakra and make it flow from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Once Kundalini reaches its final destination, the Sahasrara Chakra, you will be in the knowledge space or Chidakasa.

Clean Your Kidneys - Naturally

coriander.jpg
Years pass by and our kidneys are filtering the blood by removing salt, poison and any unwanted entering our body. With time, the salt accumulates and this needs to undergo cleaning treatments and how are we going to overcome this?

It is very easy, first take a bunch of Coriander (Malli Leaves) Kothimbir (Dhaniya) and wash it clean.

Then cut it in small pieces and put it in a pot and pour clean water and boil it for ten minutes and let it cool down and then filter it and pour in a clean bottle and keep it inside refrigerator to cool.

Drink one glass daily and you will notice all salt and other accumulated poison coming out of your kidney by urination also you will be able to notice the difference which you never felt before.

Bloom Box - Future of Clean Compact Energy

bloom_box.gif
The world of energy and entrepreneurship is crackling with electric anticipation this week after an Indiaborn scientist-CEO provided a sneak peek over the weekend of a clean and efficient model of power generation in a box, which can eliminate the traditional grid and challenge monopolies.

Supporters are claiming that KR Sridhars Bloom box, scheduled for a big-splash unveiling in Silicon Valley on Wednesday, could be the holy grail of the worlds energy quest, but even sceptics agree that it is a unique power plant-in-a-box.What acres of power grid can generate,Sridhars Bloom Box can crank out in a fraction of the footprint in a squeaky clean manner too.

It is already being done on the campuses of Google and eBay among others.FedEx,Wal-Mart and Staples are among a score of Fortune 100 companies that have signed up as clients. The former US secretary of state,Colin Powell, among those who endorse the technology,is on the board of directors of Sridhars Bloom Energy,an eight-year-old stealth start-up,which raised more than $400 million from Silicon Valleys venture capitalists at a time the regions economy was in a tailspin.

The man at the centre of all the excitement is Dr KR Sridhar,49,who,prior to founding Bloom Energy, was a professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering as well as director of the Space Technologies Laboratory (STL) at the University of Arizona. He is also, literally,a rocket scientist, having served as an advisor to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the areas of nanotechnology and planetary missions.

Dr Sridhar received his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Madras and moved in the 1980s to the US,where he earned an MS in nuclear engineering and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois,Urbana-Champaign,home to such start-ups as Netscape.

At its heart,Sridhars Bloom Box claims to be a game-changing fuel cell device that consists of a stack of ceramic disks coated with secret green and black inks.

Watt An Idea!

Dr Sridhars (in pic) Bloom Box consists of ceramic disks, coated with green & black inks Hydrocarbons, such as natural gas,are stored in an adjacent tank & pumped into the Bloom Box to produce clean, abundant electricity The power plant-in-a-box can produce one kilowatt of electricity Bloom Box for homes could be out in 5-10 years for as little as $3,00.

Careful about the Onions

I received the following mail as a forward from a Doctor so thought its worthwhile posting

"I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and some times I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later."

Now with this info, I have changed my mind....will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, makers of mayonnaise.  Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family.  My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed - he's one of the brothers. Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz.

During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil.
Ed's answer will surprise you. He said that all commercially-made Mayo is completely safe.  "It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment.

He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when
someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. it's not  even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator. It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you.

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut onion and use or cook the next day. It becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

The Negotiator

Implausible world ,meaning "a world not having the appearance of truth or credibility".

It may be a hard to digest this but this is the world in which we are all living ,everything in our day to day life is getting fabricated.Even a smile to a colleague in office serves a hypocritic purpose ,fabricated cases ,fabricated news ,fabricated truths ,the list goes on.

Some people who get caught in this web are taken for a ride and when the ride ends they are either no more or join the wagon of fabrication.

PLOT : " An innocent cop takes justice in his own hands after a fabricated case against him threatens his life & the life of the people he loves. "

The plot of the movie may sound like a regular run of the mill cop story but what made this film so appreciable are the lead actors who just lifted the scripted to an engaging thriller.

Samuel L.Jackson
& Kevin Spacey are the lead actors am talking about ,both of them had their lion's share of roles in the movie which they had executed flawlessly.

The presence of these actors in certain scenes raised the tension levels & served as the movie's backbone. Both these actors enacted the role of a hostage negotiator with their own working style.

"The Negotiator" directed by F.Gary Gary is a perfect example of excellent acting coupled with crisp direction. The director ratifies the audience with scenes that have a clear message that what happens in the movie is happening in our world today.

Supporting actors too had a major role in the movie ,they sometimes provide the comic relief needed in this intense movie which never fails to deliver when it comes to the thrills & suspense.

What clicks in this film is the treatment of the script ,Kevin Fox & James DeMonaco have provided the director with a script which is racy and at the sametime a taut intelligent thriller.

The beauty of the script lies in how the plot unflods at you in a neat & clear manner ,all the subplots too make sense when the main plot gets revealed ,kudos to the script writers for achieving this.

Samuel L.Jackson's
portrayal of an innocent husband forced to be on the wrong side of the law deserves special mention here ,his roles of a trustworthy friend ,an honest cop are also not to missed out.

Kevin Spacey
rides into the movie into the middle leg and takes over thereby starting a game of cat & mouse between him & Jackson which culminates into a justifiable & clever climax.

The way the movie is put across makes the viewer understand the functioning of our world today ,everything around is & will get fabricated.Either we have to cope in this Implausible world or get perished.

"The Negotiator" plays out the plight of certain people who try to prove their innocence in a way that is less propable to happen but at also reflects the hue & cry faced by innocent people who are framed in this FABRICATED WORLD.

  • Rating : "PG" for violence.
P.S : " The movie was originally written to star Sylvester Stallone and Kevin Spacey. Spacey was supposed to be the hostage-taker and Stallone playing opposite him. When Stallone turned down the part, Spacey decided he wanted the other part and had his original part recast. (Samuel L. Jackson got the role.) "

Being a better mother

It goes without saying that mothers have an important role to play in their children's lives. Here are a few tips on how you can be a better parent to your child:

Respect and value your child:

Always respect your children -- respect and listen to their views and values, their opinions. Give them your complete attention when they want to talk to you. Put whatever activity you are engaged in on hold, and if that's not possible, set a time for when you can chat, and make sure to stick to it.

Encourage your children every opportunity you get. Make them feel special and express your love for them often. Hug them, kiss them and say 'I love you' everyday, not just when they are young but also as they grow older. Let them feel your love and affection as often as you can.

Talk to your kids:

Conversing with children is the best way to influence their ability and love for learning. Children who are spoken to often as infants will understand more words when they are toddlers and pre-schoolers than others. Communication also strengthens the mother-child bond and eases out the communication barriers, even as kids grow older.

Have fun with them:

Mothers are so busy with their day-to-day routines that they forget to have fun with their children. Take out one-on-one time to enjoy with your child. Do something that both of you like -- indulge in outdoor games, art and craft, board games, go for a walk, chat, cook -- do anything at all that makes you feel good. Laugh together, tickle each other, dance, sing songs, just have FUN!

Read to your little ones:

Reading to your children is the best way to inculcate a reading habit in them, which leads to a love of learning as they grow older. Reading also creates an emotional bond between parent and the child, whether it's lap-time reading, bedtime reading or any other way of doing it that you both enjoy. Moreover, it develops their imagination, creativity, vocabulary and communication skills.

Keep your children safe:

All parents want to keep their kids safe. Remember to take the necessary precautions, whether it is making them sit in the backseat of the car while driving, or making sure that there is someone responsible with them at all times. Make sure your home is childproof, with electrical outlets out of reach, furniture edges rounded off, glass items out of the way etc.

Teach your children values:

Make sure to impart good values to your kids -- it's the best gift you'll ever give them. Values are the foundation of a child's character. Teach your children values through everyday interactions, stories and by the way you conduct yourself. While story-telling, however, make sure you don't connect the story to the child. If, for example, you want to teach your little one about honesty, tell him/ her interesting stories related to it. Do not say, "You should behave in the same manner as so-and-so did and always tell the truth" -- the message will not sink in. To a youngster, this feels like nagging and moralizing, which will go in one ear and out the other.

Be a good role model:

Remember that your kids are watching you all the time and want to ape you in every possible way. Even very young children take in and listen to everything their parents say and do, so remain aware of your actions and behavior around them. For example, if you talk rudely to the domestic help, you will not be very successful in teaching your children the value of politeness. Model the behavior that you want them to develop.

Keep your kids healthy, but allow them their personal likes and dislikes when it comes to food:

Provide nutritious meals for your children, but allow them to make their own choices about what they like or don't like. As long as you are providing them with nutritious options and not junk food, they will almost always make the right choices. With young children, try and be creative with their meals, so that it's fun for them. If, for instance, there is cooked vegetable and chapattis for dinner, fold some cooked veggies into each chapatti so that the kids can enjoy it as a roll.

Set rules and limits:

A good mother is firm and flexible. Don't leave discipline only to a child's father. Set reasonable rules and limits and discuss them with your kids beforehand. Follow through with the consequences whenever applicable. However, there are times when you have to be flexible and ease the rules; times when youngsters are tired, sleepy, hungry or not well.

Be just and fair:

Treat all your children in the same manner. However, don't try to be overly fair, as it will get in the way -- for example, if you are out shopping and spot a book that one of your kids needs for a reference project, you do not necessarily have to buy something for the other child. Similarly, bring the other child what he/ she requires when it's needed. As long as you are providing for both of them equally, they will understand and not make an issue. When you try to be overly fair, children tend to find faults with every little thing you do.

Don't interfere in your children's fights unless it's necessary:

Allow your kids to settle issues on their own. As long as there is no bullying or physical violence, do not get involved in their fights. When you try to resolve their disputes, you will be required to take sides and this will not go down well with one of them. It is better to allow children to handle their own problems as far as possible. If they are not able to do it, or you feel like the situation is getting to you, ask them to play separately till they are able to be civil to each other and find a solution. You will be doing them a favor by teaching them the values of co-operation, problem-solving and compromise in the process.

Honor their father:

One of the best things a mother can do is Honor her children's father in front of them. Even if you are separated or divorced, never speak ill about your spouse in front of your children. Talk about him with respect and teach your children to respect him too.

Get the kids to interact with extended family:

Get your children to bond with extended family -- uncles, aunts, cousins. Make an effort so that they interact with both the maternal and paternal sides. Even if you don't get along with your in-laws, teach your children to respect their grandparents. They will hold you in higher esteem for doing that.

Keep your self-respect intact:

Always expect to be treated with respect by others in the presence of your kids and by your kids themselves. Do not allow anyone to cross a line. Maintain your dignity under all circumstances; be honest and keep your integrity intact always.

Take care of yourself:

Sleep well and take out time for yourself. Keep yourself in good health. Remember, a happy, relaxed mother can give more of herself to her children and family than an overworked, tense parent.

Designer Andy Kurovets presents his “Bend Mobile” concept.

He thinks turning on a device and having it grow to nearly double its size will really be attractive to some people. He may be right but where is the proof? Oh right, he is also including a high capacity digital camera that also pops out to larger than expected proportions.
