Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Talent is something that is unique with every individual which sets them apart.Making use of it people scale great heights by accomplishing things ,things that not everybody can do.

Some put their talents to good use whereas there are equal numbers wasting it ,and there are others with sadistic thoughts trying to put their talents to the test in a more gruesome manner imaginable.

PLOT : " A peasant boy born with a superior sense of smell embarks on a journey to create the world's best perfume but the ingredients of his perfume have a price ,a price which turns him into a murderer. "

I have never been so enthralled whilst watching films of this genre ,the flow of the film was like watching a play being orchestrated by the finest entertainers.

Director Tom Tyker has created a masterpiece here ,his previous works "RUN LOLA RUN" "HEAVEN" are his other trademark films. The way the entire script was handled coupled with the beautiful screenplay just made me sit upright till the end.

The peasant boy portrayed by Ben Whishaw was so subtle & perfect ,his acting was really commendable. His quest & the paths he takes to create the best PERFUME is etched out really well with his scintillating performance.

" THE SOUL OF A BEING IS THEIR SCENT " ,remember this phrase because only then will you know how this phrase has been sketched out into a movie so convincingly that it will take you for a ride you wouldn't forget.

The other cast includes Dustin Hoffman ,Alan Rickman & the sublime beauty of Rachel Hurd-Wood playing out their roles near to perfection.

The background score had such a beautiful sync in the movie ,this along with the crisp cinematography was an uplifting experience for me.

Music conducted by the trio of Tom Tykwer ,Johnny Klimek & Reinhold Heil is something out of the blue for a ardent movie buff like me.The background score along with the movie worked like a symphony with a soothing touch.

The film is basically adapted from the novel by Patrick Suskind which was a international best seller ,I haven't read the novel but i can just imagine the experience in reading it whilst watching the movie.

The beauty of the script made me ignore the heinous crimes committed by Ben such that it made me ponder whether his crimes were justifiable to support his cause.

The talent possessed by Ben in the movie could have brought enough fame & fortune than anyone can imagine if he had utilised it in a more appropriate way but he ended up as just another in a bunch of individuals ,individuals who end up on the wrong side wasting their immense talent.

PERFUME portrays one such individual who had the gifted talent in him & how his talent brings upon a curse to fellow beings & finally to himself.

  • Rating : "A" for nudity.
P.S : " Perfume as of 2006 was the most expensive German movie ever made ,It was deemed unmarketable for American audiences and released in a very limited number of theaters in North America. "

3 Idiots Movie Review - All is well

Aamir khan has proven once again why he is the undisputed leader of Bollywood. His last release was Ghajini which was released on 25th Dec 2008 and on the same day exactly a year later his "3 Idiots" hits the screens. The movie which is loosely based on the book by chetan Bhaghat titled Five Point Someone is an adaptation that is suitably modified to satisfy the ordinary movie goers. The movie which is an outright comedy with shades of seriousness is a total paisa vasool.

Rancho (Aamir Khan), Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) are the three lovable idiots who enroll themselves into Imperial College of Engineering which has Viru Sahastrabude a.k.a Virus (Boman Irani) as its director. Rancho stamps his authority in college in the first day at hostel when he escapes the ragging episode by his seniors and in return he ends up giving a shock to one of his senior.

Farhan, Raju and Rancho are room mates in hostel and they together keep the campus rocking. Virus frustrated by the trio sends in a warning letter to both Farhan and Raju's parents and when all three visit the residences of Farhan and Raju they get to know each other's background.

Virus then develops an ill feeling towards the trio thanks to their pranks and at the same time the 3 idiots come across Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who unfortunately happens to be the daughter of Virus. Pia though stubborn at the beginning slowly changes her stance about them and also her interaction with Rancho blossoms into love between the two.

When the trio complete their studies and bid adieu to college life, each individuals life takes different dimensions and when they all meet together again after a gap of few years they come across a mystery that hits them hard and how they unravel the mystery is in the scope of the remaining part of the movie.

Director Rajkumar Hirani who is also incharge of the editing has done a fabulous job and hats-off to him especially to change gears from Munnabhai series to something new. However, he has kept lots of scope for a sequel to this movie which should be rolling out soon depending on the success of 3 Idiots.

Music by Shantanu Moitra are melodious and peppy in nature and "All is Well" song has become more of a youth anthem now. All the actors have been brilliant and at the same time flawless. Special mention and appreciation should be given to Boman Irani for the body language and the dialogue delivery style in the character of Virus.

"3 Idiots" - All is Well in this comic adaptation of "Five Point Someone".

Sleep well at 2 AM - BSNL DataOne Manager

2AM is when India's netizens wake up to switch off and switch on the modem. Yeah, you heard it right. BSNL's unlimited night plan from 2AM to 8AM doesn't work automatically.

A manual restart of the modem is required. This is because, BSNL calculates usage per session, and if you use the internet from 12 AM to 8 AM, it averages out per hour usage, and charge you for 2 hours and leaves off 6 hours as discount. To avoid this, manual restart of the modem is done, so that a new session start at 2 AM.

To help you sleep well and still not bother about the restarting, http://www.shajul.net/ has made a software which restarts your modem at the specified time.

Weight of Reasoning - Story

The king of Valmiki Nagar wanted a clever minister to help him in governing the kingdom. He decided to hold a contest to find a shrewd and capable person for the post. Drumbeaters announced the contest. "The king will make him a minister whoever owns an animal that can lift the most weight!"

Hearing this, every man started to search for animals in the nearby forest. The day of the contest arrived, and many contenders came with their animals well fed and trained. The king surveyed the scene in front of him and asked the contestants to start exhibiting the skill of their animals.

The first contestant had brought a gorilla, which lifted a large boulder. There was a wry smile on the king's face. The next contestant came up with a buffalo pulling a cart full of huge stones. The king only got wild and said,"Torturing an innocent animal...you fool, get lost!" One after the other, the contestants came up to display the might of their animals. One contestant had come with an elephant. It uprooted a huge tree and threw it a long distance away. Yet the king was not impressed. Finally, a simple looking young villager came up and said,"Sire, I wish to try, too". An infuriated king merely nodded nonchalantly.

The young man brought out an ant and placed it on a table. Seeing this the onlookers burst out laughing"Ha, ha, ha...even the mighty elephant did not win and you have come up with this insect!"

The young man was unflustered and placed a dead beetle before the ant. The ant quickly caught hold of the beetle and tried to carry it away. But it wouldn't budge. Yet it tried again and again till it moved the beetle away. Even as the ant was carrying the beetle away, the young man created a wall of stones around it. The ant did not give up and carried the beetle up the wall. At last the king smiled and said,"You will be my minister".

The onlookers were not amused and felt they had been cheated."But your majesty, you saw with your own eyes that the elephant lifted the most weight?" the man who had brought the elephant protested.

The king said,"Yes, I agree, the elephant did lift a heavy tree. But then the ant lifted a weight ten times heavier than his own and moreover even when an obstacle came its way, it did not give up. If I make this young man my minister, he will recognize all those who work hard and keep my subjects happy. But you are all concerned with power and skill than reasoning. After all a sense of reasoning alone will make a man unbiased."

The young man was promptly made a minister.

Begging is a Crime in India - Did you know?

Under the Motor Vehicles Act in Delhi and Prevention of Begging Act, 1959 in Mumbai, begging is considered a crime.

According to this law, begging, vending on roads, cleaning vehicles at traffic junctions, singing in buses and displaying disability for alms are all unlawful. A police officer or any authorised person in this regard has the right to arrest such a person.

The government and the police department seems to be sleeping on this. Lets hope at least when many know about it, this law is enforced.

Vettaikaran Movie Review - Same old spiceless masala

“Vettaikaran” (Hunter) is all about Vijay and his exploits with the bad guys. The movie does not contain any concrete story as such instead it has a one-line story which goes like the hero comes to the city and he comes across the bad guys and what follows is a cat and mouse game between the two. Debutant director Babu Sivan should have worked more on the script as Vijay’s previous flops was an example that movies won’t run only on the strength of his larger than life image. The hero deciding to introduce his son to tinsel world has allotted a small cameo appearance in a song for “Junior Vijay”.

Ravi (Vijay) re-christens himself as Police Ravi is a young fellow in Tuticorin has an ambition of becoming a police officer inspired by Devaraj IPS (Sri Hari). Ravi after failing in school exams for 4 consecutive times, finally on the fifth attempt clears it and starts his journey to chennai. As usual in the railway station he meets Susheela (Anushka) and falls in love at first sight.

In chennai he continues his education by driving auto and on that earning he pays his fees. Susheela suddenly comes to chennai for no obvious reasons and Ravi meets her and the love quotient develops amongst them. The sequences which lead to Susheela falling in love with Ravi is no poorly narrated that even a school going kid will reject their approach.

Then the most anticipated hero-villain clash takes place. Vedhanayagam (Salim Ghosh) is a dreaded don in the city and he gets things done from other out of the fear people have for him. In the end Ravi and Vedhanayagam keep on fighting when the viewers eagerly look forward to the film to end as there has been nothing in the story apart from these two guys fighting.

Anushka after a splendid performance in “Arundhati” has come up with a dare-bare act and the amount of skin she exposes is too much. She has no doubt provided a visual treat to the front benchers. Its high time that Vijay concentrates more on the story and screenplay as movies like this is definite suicide attempt.

Music by Vijay Antony helps the flow of the movie but the major defaulter is the debutant director Babu Sivan who has been wanting in all departments. As a captain of the ship he has been influenced by hit movies of the recent past and added to that he was once an Associate to “Dharani” and that effect still remains large in the final outcome.

“Vettaikaran” nothing special apart from the generous skin show of Anushka.

    Mobile Phone Gun

    image001

Most of us see airport security as a pain. Some of us even feel violated. When you see the below pictures, you'll understand why they want our cell phones through the x-ray machine.

If you get asked to test your cell phone at the airport, this is the reason. Cell phone guns have arrived. AND they are real.

Beneath the digital phone face is a .22 caliber handgun capable of firing four rounds in rapid succession using the standard telephone keypad.

European law enforcement officials are stunned by the discovery of these deadly decoys. They say phone guns are changing the rules of engagement in Europe. Only when you have one in your hand do you realize that they are heavier than a regular cell phone.

Be patient if security asks to look at your cell phone or turn it on to show that it works. They have a good reason! Wake up to our NEW WORLD!! We shouldn't complain about airport security 'invading your privacy.

Avatar Movie Review - Worth evey moment

The most awaited movie of the year "Avatar" has finally hit the screens and the man behind it must be applauded for the spectacular visual bonanza that he has offered to the viewers. 12 years ago when James Cameron presented to the world a classic titled "Titanic", the entire film fraternity and the audience gave thumbs up and it broke all available records at that time. The man just relaxed and didn't hurry up with his next project. 12 years later he comes up with a technologically advanced product called "Avatar" which is in a league of never seen before category.

"Avatar" on the story is very simple it has been seen many a times before in numerous movies. The major difference is the characters who are involved in the scheme of things. If Titanic was all about mounting, "Avatar" goes a step ahead and its screenplay along with brilliant execution and advanced technology has done the trick here.

Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is a marine who is half-paralyzed while he was in Marine. He now is pushed to take up the project that was handled by his brother who had died. Jake along with Dr. Grace (Signoury Weaver) and Norm Spellman (Joel Moore) set on a mission to understand the characteristics of the aliens and to convince them to act as per the wishes of human in order to obtain the abundant natural source out there.

When all goes fine and when Jake in the body of an Avatar meets up with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) they both get along like a house on fire and she helps him get the necessary support and acceptance from the clan. When Jake then decides to move towards his goals in an accelerated manner, the humans play havoc by starting to destroy the living habitat of the aliens.

Jake then deciding to fight against his own clan ends up being hated by them and his love affair with Neytiri takes a beating when the humans begin their quest for conquer. In the end who wins has been portrayed on screen with finesse by Cameron and his team.

"Avatar" visually captivating to all viewers.

    Google Public DNS

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.

    What is Google Public DNS?

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.

    To try it out:

    * Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers.

If you decide to try Google Public DNS, your client programs will perform all DNS lookups using Google Public DNS.

    Why does DNS matter?

The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's phone book: every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day.
