Villu Movie Review

There is nothing new in Ayangaran International's villu. The same old story of a son taking revenge on the bad guys who were responsible for killing his father. The treatment given by the director prabhu deva is also nothing new when compared to his previous hit "Pokkiri". Infact Villu is like re-visiting Pokkiri in a new version with slight modifications to the story line.

Pugazh (Vijay) comes into the scheme of things with a fight which raises the pulse of his die hard fans. Later similar to Pokkiri a song in which Prabhu Deva shakes a leg with vijay and the new addition to this one being Kushboo in a special apperance.

Jhanvi (Nayanthara) a foreign return girl to the village probably for her friend's marriage is all glamour in her introduction scene. As in all movies Pugazh and Jhanvi by design have come to the same marriage function and the usual boy meets girl episodes happen.

Vadivelu who has been roped in to do a seperate comedy track has overdone his role in this movie that his comedy scenes gets boring after a few sequences.

J D (Prakashraj) happens to be a notorious gangster who runs an empire in Munich and he happens to be the dad of Jhanvi. Jhanvi takes Pugazh to Munich to meet her dad where the both meet to exchange few words of ruthless revenge.

Then there is a twist in the movie when Pugazh conveys his motive behind falling in love with Jhanvi and when she comes to know of it she feels totally shattered.

Vijay has done nothing new in this movie except a few action sequences which would please his huge base of die hard fans. Nayanthara proves to be a total eye candy with her skimpy skirts and backless tops.

Devi Sri Prasad's music is nothing new and the same can be said of the screenplay by Prabhu Deva.

On the whole a perfect Villu for his fans but for others an average movie.

Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review

Slumdog Millionaire is a tale from india which is being portrayed on screen by a foreigner. And to be very honest the director "Danny Boyle" has done a fabulous job. He has made sure the movie does not become a very stylish representation of an indian slum and its occupants.

Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is in a very critical moment of his life where he is just one question short of winning twenty million rupees and at the same time he is being questioned by the police in a local police station in Mumbai doubting his integrity.

The main storyline of the movie is based on the popular game show in india "Kaun Banega Crorepati" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". The hero Jamal an ordinary tea serving office assistant in Mumbai has come to participate in this contest not for money but for something else more important than that.

The story goes to a flashback mode where Jamal and his younger brother Salim (Madhur Mittal) just keep rocking in whatever they do. Their mother gets killed in a tragic communal violence between Hindus and Muslims. In that riot when they escape the mayhem they also find Latika (Freida Pinto) and our little Jamal develops a liking for her in that age itself.

Jamal, Salim and Latika find their own ways to grow up in life and each individual faces certain ordeals which inturn gives the knowledge for Jamal to bring him to this stage in the competition. The host of the game show Prem (Anil Kapoor) tries to be very nice and caring in the beggining only to be learnt of his dark side later in the movie.

Jamal who madly in love with Latika comes in search of her in the end only to be turned back everytime. Whether Jamal gets to win 20 million rupees and what happens to his sweetheart Latika forms the rest of the movie.

The main highlights of the movie are the screenplay written by Simon Beaufoy, the crisp editing by chris dickens, Cinematography by Anthony Dod Mantle and the music by Indian Musical Wizard A.R.Rahman.

Irrfan Khan and Saurabh Sukhla as police officers have performed their supporting roles to perfection.

On the whole a brilliant movie which is set to enthrall the viewers in a style of its own.

PEAS POTATO CUTLET

PEAS POTATO CUTLET

Not every time can you think of healthy and diet conscious foods, there are times when your heart craves to binge on comfort foods which make you happy, like when it’s raining and you crave to eat something fried. I really don’t know what could be the connection between rains and the cravings for hot fried foods, but there is and when I go blog hopping I see that it’s a universal syndrome. So here is a dish that’s nutritious in a way as its got vegetables but Peas potato cutlet is that kind of crispy delight that no one can resist dunking into.

Ingredients

Potatoes – 3 big size

Green Peas – 1 cup

Cumin seeds – 2 tsp

Green chillies - 2-3

Ginger – ½ an inch

Cumin powder – 1tsp

Garam Masala – 1 tbsp

Asafetida – 1 tsp

2 slices bread

Coriander leaves – 1cup

Rice flour - 2-3 tbsps

Roasted semolina (Rava) – 2 tbsps

Bread crumbs – 1 cup

Salt as per taste

Oil

Method

Boil the potatoes and green peas separately in a pressure cooker upto 3 whistles. Peel and mash the potatoes. Just lightly mash the potatoes (don’t mash into a paste).Drain the water from the boiled peas. Now, in a wok, take one tablespoon cooking oil, add the cumin seeds, when they are getting fried, add the ginger chilly paste and fry, then add the garam masala, asafetida, cumin powder and fry for a minute. Now add the green peas and fry, when u see that it is getting light in color, add in the mashed potatoes and salt as per taste mix well. The masala and salt must mix well with the potatoes and peas mixture. Now add finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

Now soak 2 bread slices in water. Squeeze the water out completely and mash into a paste and mix it with the Potato-peas mixture. This helps the mixture to bind better. If you find the mixture soggy, you can add some bread crumbs to it. This will make it bind better and also the cutlets will be crispy.

Make heart shapes or give the cutlets a circular or cylindrical shape as per your preference.

Now make a watery paste of rice flour and salt. Dip the heart shaped cutlets into the this rice flour paste and then roll over the roasted semolina and then roll over the bread crumbs until the bread crumbs coat the cutlet. Now deep fry until Golden brown and crisp.

Once you remove from oil place on kitchen towel to drain the excess oil. Serve hot with Tomato ketchup and Coriander chutney.
