Mobile Number Portability - MNP

Mobile number Portability or MNP will be introduced in India by the 1st of January 2010. The metro or the "A" Circle will witness this feature after which by end of March all the other circle will be able to utilize the same.

MNP is simply said to be "Buy your number and keep it to yourself". Whichever operator you shift to, the mobile number will remain. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has announced that the fee will not be "scary" to make sure that this service is used by people. The prescribed maximum fee is Rs.19.

TRAI has made a statement that this new feature will help mobile phone users to gain maximum benefit from new schemes or different operators and also that the competition between operators will intensify and they would provide better services.
