When do readers read your blog ?

Dont you think if you get to know the statistics on when your readers visit your blog, it would be appropriate to have new articles posted that time, so that you get good impression that the blog has daily updates.

Think about it like this, wouldn’t you want to know when to set your RSS Feed delivery option so it’ll appear in their inbox right when they go check it? Also, what if they only get time to visit your blog once a day but when they go to visit your blog, nothing has been updated. Maybe you’ll lose a possible visit for tomorrow or even longer, who knows?

To analyse this I used the Trends in Google Reader to get my own data on when I read the articles from different Blogs. From the graph it shows that I read most of the articles on Wednesday. May be being the middle of the week, I get bored with the work and start reading the blog articles. From my statistics If any blog has new articles posted on wednesdays its considered to me as blog which updates regularly :)

The next analysis report I got from my Google Analytics on when there are maximum viewers for my blog. Here is some graphs which show the statistics.

The graph show that the visitors for my blog starts well with Monday and steps up on Tuesdays and then a gradual decrease for the rest of the week. As per my blog analytics its good to have new articles posted on Tuesdays. We part time bloggers have time over the weekends and post lot of new articles over the weekend. Damn it becomes scourge. The best timing to have new articles posted can be Tuesdays or Wednesdays of the week.

If you are reading the posts using Google Feed Reader you can use the trends to find your own analytics on when you read most of the articles.

I will get the survey done on my followers blogs and come to some conclusion on this statitics. Meanwhile if you would like to contribute your data, I would be happy to post it our site and make the survey complete. Post your comments

Gmail looks different - Is a change needed now?

skins_gridI started using Google mail way long when it started giving accounts only with invites. Yeah, they stopped this practice quite recently, but still, the reasons why many shifted to Gmail was for the space, but slowly Google made them stay with Gmail mainly because of simplicity, and not because they were coming out with features which are loaded like in other mail contenders.

But now again, google is back to the same line. Of course, a change of color to the page looks great, but was it really a necessity? Anyway, its a labs feature and you have a choice to keep it or leave it.

Google isn't too well on slow connections and we need to compromise and come back to HTML view. Now more the graphics, more the loading time, and less you get to see your mails. Yeah, this isn't applicable to people who are on cable or DSL, but, many still access Gmail from dial-up, or a congested DSL.

Storming the market - Blackberry Storm

As Blackberry Storm releases at Vodafone, lets check out what it has in store.

Many call this an iPhone killer. May be just because it has a full touch screen, or may be because it has email, orkut, and what not... What not...just reminds me.. it doesn't have WiFi. May be to keep the phone under the $200 tag, they have not considered WiFi or may be because they want Vodafone to get a good revenue with their data plans.

RIM's a little late to the touchscreen party, but comes bearing goodies. The BlackBerry Storm is a beast of a phone in more ways than one. Fronted by a meaty, high-resolution touchscreen with an innovative clicking mechanism, the phone is easily the prettiest by RIM to date. There's a brushed metal back, a beautiful new OS interface, and enough radios to give your grandkids cancer (EV-DO Rev. A, quad-bandGSM, Europe-friendly HSPA, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, no WiFi). But the real test of a phone is usability, not flash.

Krishna of Keepwrite.com invited me to part of this wonderful platform of writers from different parts of the world who write on different subjects. A short introduction of myself, I am Sukanya an Indian by birth, residing in Singapore since 8 years post marriage, a tired mother of 2 lovely girls trying to balance time for everything including my blog. Blogging to me is a platform for expressing to the world. I started blogging in 2007 when I was pregnant with my little one and blogging has been a very fulfilling experience for me. My readers have showered me with some rave reviews and awards galore.

I consider it an honor to be part of this forum and my first contribution to this wonderful platform is the Instant Chocolate Malai Barfi from my blog Sukanya’s Musings. This post marks sweet beginnings with the readers and contributors of this forum. Thank you Krishna for inviting me. The world is truly shrinking thanks to the internet.

INSTANT CHOCOLATE- MALAI BARFI WITH A TWIST REVISITED

Since my first attempt last Diwali I have made these 3 times, this being my third attempt. It is such a hit in my house, that it gets difficult for me to save it for the guests. The best part is I can make it in a jiffy, It takes all of 15 minutes to make this exotic sweet. What can beat it!!!!!!!

Minimum ingredients, minimum time and minimum labor….only maximum love.

The guests are impressed, the hubby is impressed and my kid is drooling over it. The disappearing cakes are proof for it. So why not make it again, so I made it again with a twist. This time I added 6 squares of Cadbury’s dairy milk chocolate, this not only gave my chocolate layer a deep chocolate color but also gave the chocolate layer a more chocolatey taste….see how…..below

Ingredients

Milk powder - 2 cups

Almond meal (Powdered almond (skinless))- 1 cup (You can get it in the “baking needs” section of most shops)

Thickened cream - 300 ml

Castor Sugar (powdered sugar) - 3/4 cup

Cocoa powder - 1 tbsp

6 squares of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate

Method

Cadbury’s dairy milk comes in a big block of small squares. Break exactly 6 squares and melt on high for a second. Keep aside

Mix all the ingredients except cocoa powder in a large microwavable bowl.

Mix well and place bowl in a microwave oven for 4 minutes on high cook.

Remove bowl and stir mixture. Place again for another 4 minutes.

Transfer half the mix in a greased plate.

Quickly blend in the cocoa and the melted cadbury’s dairy milk into the remaining mix and pour over the barfi in the plate and spread evenly. After that for half a minute keep in the microwave again so that it is set. Cool and cut into the shape of your desire.

Blanched nuts can be sprinkled on top along with silver varq (foil).

Your exotic Chocolate Malai Barfi is ready to serve.

Vaaranam Aayiram – Movie Review – So whats the story?

vaaranamaayiram-stills-016

After these directors found a technology to flawlessly make a “double”, they have been flaunting it like mad.The movie revolves around Surya, as any tamil movie would. Just not one, but two. A story of a father and son, love between the two, the caring, the fights, the ups, downs and how the life goes on. This is all is what this movie is about.

The movie has three ladies, Simran, as the 80s kind of heroine, who falls in love with the 80s style Surya, in a song. Then comes Sameera Reddy, who the modern Surya meets in a train, and falls in love instantly, and then comes Divya Spandana, who falls in love with Surya. All of them have done their roles pretty well and you just can’t find fault. Surya’s daughter is played by an television artist and she has also done her role well.

Surya has proved to be a classic. Action at his best, as always. The father Surya seems to have been greatly inspired by Sivakumar (Surya’s real father). The style, the way he walks, the look and feel in most of the places, everything seems to resemble Sivakumar in his acting days.

An actor who was a pathetic dancer, has improved to such an extent, that in this movie he has mimicked none other than the Michael Jackson, and he has done that very well also.
As a school boy, as a college student, as a army man, as a father, as a lover… Surya has done his job very well.

Now on the movie, a subtle emotion between the father and the son. A storyline everyone in this world can relate to. Heard that this is a remake of the Hollywood superhit “Forrest Gump”. But, there are so many places where there is something like a missed link. There is actually no solid story rather than a man falling in love, giving birth to a son, who falls in love, his first love fails and the next one ends in a marriage.

May be, if this story was done by Mani Rathnam, it would have been better, like his “Alaipayuthe”, which I sincerely feel, is no story but a great movie.

Something which I never expected of Gautham Menon, er, Gautham Vasudevan Menon, to be precise. Yeah, his movies are emotional, but not so much. This seems to be a real dedication to a real life story. The way Surya woos Sameera is way too natural for a movie. Some directorial errors also, which is not usual of him. For example, Major. K.Surya, working for the Indian Airforce. But, some parts are made extremely well. Like his fight to save the kid, where the fight looks absolutely real.

Sameera Reddy seems to have a starting problem. The introduction was supposedly a great impression with high projection of her looks, as Surya falls in love at first sight. But she seems to have looked better in the later part of the movie, where these two spend their days in California.

Divya (a.k.a Ramya in Kannada film industry) looks good. Saree or salwar clad, a “homely” looking girl in this movie. vaaranamaayiram-stills-021

Half of the credit for direction can be attributable to the Choreographer. Everytime Simran or Sameera or Surya smile, there, there is a song with a 80s style Surya or a “hunk with six-pack abs without shirt” Surya dancing to the tunes. Really couldn’t keep count of the number of songs this movie had. Looks like they wanted to replicate the real 80s feel with so many songs. Surya has not missed a single chance to show his “stunning” work out for his six-packs.

The music score by Harris Jeyaraj is not his standard. Even though some songs are good, nothing seems to have stayed well back in the memory.

All said and done, after the movie, I came out to see an Audi parked right next to the parking lot. Looked around and found that the owner of this car was none other than than anxious Gautham Menon himself. Just looked at his face, all around watching and trying to judge people’s emotions and the outcome of his months of hard work. Its easy to watch a movie for 3 hours and comment, but watching his reactions, I felt the pain and hard work which he has put in and this is something like his dream coming to reality on screen. Never had the heart to go tell him that the movie was just above average.
