Great news for travellers and Switzerland lovers!! Switzerland joins Schengen zone from Dec 12, 2008 and thus one can apply for Schengen visa from Switzerland and travel to Switzerland with schengen visa got from other schengen countries. So, as of Dec 12, 2008 the Schengen Visa is valid in 25 countries in Europe.
Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain implemented the Schengen agreement in 1995. They were followed by Italy and Austria in 1997, Greece in 2000, and Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland in 2001. The nine new members joined in 2007 - the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Switzerland is now one more country added to the list as being not part of European Union but to join Schengen zone. UK as usual, part of European union but have not accepted Euro or Schengen agreement.
